Apex Predator Racing 1st Season Round Up, March 2008.

On the 12th January 2008 the team fielded their first entries in Series 7 of GTx at Race2Play. The V8 series was to start a week later and the team was well prepared and looking forward to making a challenge for a team title. GTx started first and Darren and Heinz put APR into a solid 2nd after round 1 at Anderstorp. Heinz had to take a break in the early season for a trip overseas so John stepped in for a few rounds. His first race was round 1 of the V8 Supercar Championship at Pukekohe and we were over the moon to take 3rd and 4th place in the race and lead the team championship. We faced tough opposition in both championships, from Over the Hill in GT and Scuderia Internazionale in GT and V8. John scored some very nice results in those early rounds, notably beating Tolga of Scuderia at Hidden Valley which would prove to be important later in the series.

We had our fair share of bad luck including incidents with other cars and one mechanical failure, but we remained consistent and Darren and Heinz both put themselves on the podium often enough to keep the pressure on the other teams challenging for the titles. Our first race win was supplied by Darren in round 7 of GTx and another soon followed in the final round of V8 at Sandown. So after an exciting first season APR finished a creditable 3rd overall in GTx, despite missing out on one round when we couldn't field 2 drivers. But the icing on the cake was taking the V8 title in the final round at Sandown. A title in our first season is more than we expected when we started out, but it has completely justified our decision to split from the old team and start up on our own. We have now set the bar pretty high, but we hope to continue our rise and improve each season. Congratulations to the team for a great first season, your commitment and hard work is fully appreciated. Enjoy the break, and get ready for our assault on Season 8.

Apex Predator Racing 2nd Season Round Up, July 2008.

For our 2nd season we once again contested the GTx series and the V8 series and this time we added G2 and Formula 1 to our schedule.
The season started with G2 at Brno on April 10th, Heinz and Darren representing APR in the BMW M3 GTR. We had a good start, coming away with 2nd and 4th and a healthy lead in the team standings. We had a good chance of a series win but problems arose later in the season and we had to miss 3 rounds, effectively dropping us out of contention. The first round of the GT Championship was at Anderstorp, once again the team took an early lead thanks to a 3rd and 5th from Darren and Heinz. However, problems arose again in this series which ruled Darren out for a few races, despite great efforts from Heinz to make up for our missing driver, the championship just couldn't be won. We were up against the might of GTNDC with their stable of high quality "alien" drivers, and a win was just one step too far for us, we were pleased with 2nd though, especially considering all the problems we had to endure this season.
Formula 1 gave us problems right from the start, it was our first season with the team in open wheel racing and although we showed good form in practice we just weren't able to complete enough races to challenge VindexWorks Inc. or GTNDC. The highlight of the season was the 1, 2 team finish at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Heinz brought home his first win for the team and Darren was just as ecstatic to follow him home in 2nd. After that our problems got worse and Darren was unable to race the final part of the season, so we accepted an offer from a driver to stand-in for Darren for those races. Justin Rebelo joined the team for the last 3 races and brought us 2 points finishes helping us to secure 3rd in the team championship. Justin impressed enough to be offered a full-time seat in F1 for the next series, replacing Darren in that discipline.
The V8 series was both exhilarating and frustrating, the team had plenty of success but the series was struggling to attract new teams and drivers. This eventually meant that the series was cut short but not before APR had secured the 2nd V8 Team Championship in a row.
Finally, there was the new discipline of Rally driving emerging this season. Race2Play hosted a "fun" introductory series to allow drivers to adapt to this new sim. APR entered with Darren partnering another new driver to the team. Carl Adams joined us as a Rally "specialist" and showed his skill immediately by winning the first event. This was the first of many and both APR drivers stormed through the series picking up points every round. We would have won the series if it was an official points scoring championship but unfortunately it wasn't!
Series 8 certainly had it's ups and downs but overall it was another successful season, the team has grown and improved and brought home another trophy.
